Sommer Lied Weinberg 2006

Sommer Lied Weinberg 2006

“Johannes Brahms meets Samuel Barber”

International Workshop for singers and pianists

Venue: Schloss Weinberg, Upper Austria
Date: 8.-16. July 2006
Artistic Director: Roger Vignoles

“The third Sommer Lied Weinberg turns to the songs, duets and folk-songs of Johannes Brahms. In the picturesque surroundings of the Upper Austrian landscape, participants will have the opportunity to explore the particular challenges presented to both singers and pianists by these masterworks, as well as entering the less familiar territory of Samuel Barber, perhaps the greatest American song-composer of the twentieth century. Daily masterclasses will culminate in two public concerts given by the course participants.” (Roger Vignoles)

Roger Vignoles is internationally recognized as one of the foremost piano accompanists of our time. In an outstanding career he has partnered a distinguished list of artists, including such singers as Sir Thomas Allen, Olaf Bär, Barbara Bonney, Susan Graham, Thomas Hampson, Robert Holl, Wolfgang Holzmair, Dame Kiri te Kanawa, Elisabeth Soederstroem and Sarah Walker.

His many recordings have been highly praised, especially recent issues with Susan Graham (Reynaldo Hahn) Bernarda Fink (Schumann,Spanish Songs) Stephan Genz (Beethoven, Hugo Wolf) and Christopher Maltman (Songs of Travel). He has also directed highly-acclaimed Lieder series at both the Wigmore Hall and the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London.
Roger Vignoles is much in demand as a teacher. He has given masterclasses and workshops for singers and pianists in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Stockholm and Vienna as well as in the USA, Canada and Japan, and at the Royal College of Music in London, where he is currently Prince Consort Professor of Accompaniment.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.
